"This episode started off well and I thought it was going to be a lot more entertaining than it was. The scene where Joe returns after being shot in the Ponderosa is so funny and is probably, for me, the best part of the episode. Having said that Hoss has his moments when he finally catches up with culprits (two brothers) and tries to bring them to justice." - territell "My opinion on this one is pretty much the same as Terri's. The opening was great-as far as comedy goes, it ranks right up there with the one where Hoss dunks Adam in the horse trough. Everyone's acting and dialogue was fantastic. Joe's frustration was so evident in the way he squeaked and squealed. Even Cochise adlibbed a little bit by scooting to the side when they tried to help Joe down from his horse. And then...I don't know, most of the rest left me rather disappointed. But I'm always slightly disappointed when one Cartwright goes off by himself and the rest of the family aren't seen for the rest of the show. I think it would've been a lot better if Ben and Joe had been along for the ride with the newly deputized Hoss---Joe, perhaps, riding lying on his belly in the back of a wagon, furious at his attacker and grumbling loudly all the way while Hoss and Ben dutifully try to make him happy while trying to get to the--er--bottom of things. Anyway, I gave the ep a 2.5, which is sad since it really did have an opening that could easily be rated among the top 20 in the series." - southplains "I agree with both territell and southplains. I did give it 3.5, mainly for that opening scene." - Fanofoldtvshows "I thought that the opening grabber was "cute" but how many times have we seen LJ trying to "persuade" Hoss to do something on his behalf??? A Nice Friendly Little Town delivers my Hoss just the way I like him, neat and off the Ponderosa. The only complain I have is about the two men who were playing the misguided youths They both were plain plumb stupid. I like the tangles that Hoss has with their Maw Louise Latham and the bit with the sheriff when he groans that he hasn't been paid in three months. A lovely speech by Hoss to Ben in the closing scene where he says he was grateful to have such a Pa to teach him things and LJ accidently sits on his war wound, Epsom salts will fix that right up and sitting on a donut cushion." - Blue Velvet |
