CPU (Central Processing Unit) The integrated circuits that control the operation of a microcomputer (personal computer)
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a standard for specifying the appearance of text and other elements. Styles such as fonts, font sizes, margins, can be specified in one place, then the web pages feed off this one master list, with the styles cascading throughout the page or an entire site.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the authoring software language used for creating web pages. It is a guide for the browser with instructions on how the page is set-up, where and how text and graphics should be placed.

Internet Explorer is the most widely used web browser. It comes bundled with Microsoft Windows or it can be downloaded from the Microsoft website.

Internet Protocol (IP) is a standardised method of transporting information across the Internet in packets of data. Computers must run IP to communicate across the Internet. It is often linked to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
IP Address: Each computer on the Internet has at least one address that uniquely identifies it from all other computers on the Internet. e.g. 198.204.112.1

Javascript is a script language - a system of programming codes, created by Netscape, that can be embedded into the HTML of a web page to add functionality. It is an "open" language, free for anyone to use and adapt.

MySQL (pronounced "my ess cue el") is an open source relational database management system. 'SQL' stands for "Structured Query Language" - the most common standardised language used to access databases. MySQL is most commonly used for Web applications and for embedded applications. MySQL runs on virtually all platforms, including Linux, Unix, and Windows.

Open Source Software is similar in idea to "free software". In general, open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit.

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is a protocol that defines the way in which data is transmitted in a secure manner between networks. Among its tasks, TCP checks for lost packets, puts the data from multiple packets into the correct order, and requests that missing or damaged packets be resent. It works in conjunction with IP to ensure that packets reach their intended destinations.

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the technology used to transmit voice conversations over a data network using the Internet Protocol. It enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls. e.g. Skype
