Standard Message Board Vocabulary

(This list is based on common member originated acronyms. It is subject to change at any time)

Symbols/Numbers
@:
A tag that allows a member to insert an email address into their post.

A
Account Summary:
A place in My Control Panel where members can read a bit of statistics on themselves.
Add Reply: Opens up a separate page where members can log in a lengthier response. (Ideal for long posts or people not too familiar with BB Code)
Administrator(s): The owner(s) and/or general operators of the board and its operating codes.
Avatar: An image of your choice that appears next to your username everywhere you go on the board.

Host(s):
Member(s) that runs one particular forum/subforum and enforces the rules and regulations there.
http://: A tag that allows members to insert a website link in their post.

I
IMG:
A tag that allows members to insert an image into their post using the website link to the image.

L
Last Action:
The last time a post was made in that thread. Who the member was that made it and when.
Linear: A type of thread mode where members view the opening post and have all additional posts in regular display order listed below with the option to skip to the next page without having to go through all the posts to move on.
Lo-Fi Version: Clicking this will cut out all the graphics displayed on the board.

M
Members:
The registered users that make up the board, that post comments and start topics.
Member Title: A custom title that appears above your avatar.
Messenger: A member's PM (Private Message) account box.
Moderator(s): The staff of selected members brought on by the administrator(s) to run the whole board and watch specific areas to make sure all rules and regulations are being followed.
My Assistant: A pop up box that gives members information about new posts plus statistics about the board.
My Controls: Where a member can change their personal info pertaining to their board usage, contacts and favourites.

New Topic/Poll Button(s):
Click this to start a new topic/ poll.

O
On/Off:
Tells you whether or not that member is or isn't visiting the board at that time.
Open Tags: Shows how many open BB Code tags are in your reply.
Options Button: Gives members a drop down box to choose if they want to subscribe or download forums/topics.
Outline: A type of thread mode where members view just the opening post and have all additional replies listed below.

Personal Notepad:
A place where you can keep track of bits of information and such you may want to keep.
Personal Profile: A place where a member can change and update their information, avatar and signature for other's to view.
Pips: A tiny set of pictures that appear below your avatar. They increase in number as your post total increases.
Poll: A type of thread where members can vote on a particular outcome to the question being asked and give their reasons.
Post Icons: Allows members to include a smilie next to the title of their post/topic.
Post Info: A quick synopsis of the last post made in that forum/subforum by a member and the time which it was made.
Post Length: Click here to see if your post is going to exceed the allotted amount.
Post Options: Allows members the choice to include their custom signature, emoticons (smilies) or receive email notifications for the post they are about to make.
Post/Reply: A member's answer/opinion to the opening topic.
Preview Post: Allows members to view their post before it's added onto the topic. (Ideal for checking BB Code).
Print Topic: Prints the topic in a printer friendly version to read while offline.
Private Message (PM): A small network style email system that allows members to write back and forth to one another.
Profile: Clicking this will take you to a page where you can view more info about that particular member.

Quote:
Clicking this will allow you to quote a piece of typed message from a user in your reply to a topic. It is also a BB Code tag that can be used to show a member's quoted post in a new reply.

Recently Read Topics:
Shows you the last topics you read.
Report: Clicking this will allow you to make administrators/moderators aware of problem posts and members on the board that are not adhering to the rules and regulations. (Is a great help since admins/mods don't always catch everything.)

Search:
Where members can type in words or phrases and pull up all the topics and threads containing their search criteria.
Show all: Click here to view all the smilies available for use in posts on the board.
Signature: A short quote, phrase, etc. that you want to include at the bottom of all your posts.
Size: A tag that allows members to make their writing bigger or smaller.
Standard: Regular thread mode where all posts are listed in the normal scheme.
Subforum: A section of a forum that pertains to one singular point of interest.
Subscriptions: A list of forums/subforums and/or topics you receive notifications about.
Subscribe to Forum: Allows members to receive email notifications when a new reply or topic has been made in that forum/subforum. (Ideal if you are hosting a forum/subforum).

Tag:
Another name for BB Code.
Thread/Topic: The opening post that starts a discussion.
Topic Starter: The members that begins a new topic.
Topic Title: The title of a thread/topic.
Track Topic: Saves a particular topic to a favourites list in your control panel and sends an email notification when a new reply has been made. (Ideal if you are hosting a forum/subforum)

View New Posts:
Where members can find all the posts others have left since their last visit.
Views/Replies: How often a topic was opened by a user/How often a member replied to that topic.

Y
Your Albums:
A gallery of images that a member can either share or keep private in their controls.
Your Favorites: A gallery of collected favourite images from other public galleries.
